Our Story
For centuries, the Uji region in Kyoto has been the heartbeat of Japanese matcha. It was here that our founders discovered a small, multi-generational family farm that had perfected the art of shade-growing for over three hundred years.
Witnessing the dedication to each individual leaf—the hand-picking, the granite stone grinding, the quiet reverence for the earth—the vision for AO was formed. We wanted to honor this heritage by bringing the highest ceremonial grade matcha to those who value quality over compromise.
AO means “Green” or “Blue-Green” in Japanese, representing the vibrant, living color of the finest young tea leaves and the limitless sky above the plantations.
